I have a confession: I showed up to Panama City Beach expecting nothing but sunburn and overpriced shrimp. The beach delivers, sure.

But the real trip is inland, past the flip-flop traffic jams on Front Beach Road, and the lineup is gloriously unhinged. We’re talking Ripley’s bizarre mirror mazes plus fruit-wine tastings at a tiny winery.

You can chase dolphins at sunset and then scream your head off in a genuinely terrifying haunted house two hours later. The indoor trampoline park alone will save your rainy vacation.

So grab your sunglasses and your sense of absurdity. Here’s everything weird and wonderful waiting for you.

Allow hours for this weirdness

I walked in expecting just a gift shop, honestly. I was so wrong. Ripley’s Believe It or Not! is a maze of the bizarre and the wonderful. Every turn brings a new artifact that makes you question reality. The mirror maze is a delightful disaster; I lost my kids twice and laughed until I cried. It’s the perfect indoor adventure when the sun gets too intense. Interactive exhibits had us all giggling like fools. Plan for a few hours because this weirdness deserves your full attention. I left feeling wonderfully confused and thoroughly entertained. I'm still thinking about that shrunken head. Allow extra time; you'll need it.

Great for rainy-day chaos
Tilted building, straight-up fun
The kids ran the place
I screamed on the coaster

That building is tilted, and I was not prepared for how that feels inside. WonderWorks is pure chaos in the best way possible. The indoor lightning storm show made me jump. The kids ran off to the rope course immediately, leaving me to the simulators. I screamed like a little kid on the roller coaster ride. It’s absolutely perfect for a rainy day when the beach is a washout. Every floor has something new and interactive. My arms were tired from all the hands-on games. Honestly, it’s a full-day adventure disguised as an attraction.

Swampy Jack's Wongo Adventure

Swampy Jack's Wongo Adventure
Highlights
Affordable family fun
Zero lines, instant rides
Yacuma and Swamp Ape
Poutine fries delicious
Easy walking, compact park

Swampy Jack's Wongo Adventure is the best kind of silly fun. It’s an 18-hole course that feels like a journey. The pirate and swamp theme is charming without being cheesy. The staff let us take our time and didn't rush us at all. I hit the ball into the water hazard three times. My husband still won, but I had more fun. The price was right, and there were zero crowds. It’s a great casual date night or family outing. I loved the little waterfall features. We’ll definitely be coming back here on our next trip.

Emerald Falls Family Recreation Center

Emerald Falls Family Recreation Center
Highlights
Go-karts are a blast
Multi-level wooden track
Fun for the family
Unattended course is rough
Bring your own putter

This place is a gem for the competitive family. Emerald Falls has a multi-level wooden go-kart track that is seriously exciting. I felt like a professional race car driver, if that driver was going 15 miles per hour. The karts are well-maintained and fast enough to get your heart pumping. There’s a course for everyone, from the kiddie track to the big thrill one. The staff is super friendly. I’d say bring your own putter if you care about your score because theirs are a bit beaten up. The unattended course can get a little wild, which adds to the fun.

Worth a return visit

I love being scared, and Fear at the Pier delivers. The haunted house is genuinely terrifying. I screamed so loud my throat was sore. The actors are fantastic and really get into character. They also have escape rooms, and we tried the Serial Killer one. It was challenging. We barely escaped with seconds to spare. The staff is the nicest group of horror enthusiasts you'll ever meet. They were so helpful and made sure we had a good time. It’s absolutely worth a return visit, even if I have to work up the courage all over again.

What an incredible experience. The Sea Screamer crew is prompt, funny, and immensely entertaining. They keep the energy high, and the ride itself is a thrilling blast. We saw dolphins up close, right off the bow of the boat. They were jumping and playing. The sunset views from the water are absolutely unbeatable. It’s perfect for kids and adults alike; everyone was cheering and laughing the whole time. I was worried about seasickness, but the ride was smooth enough. This was the highlight of our entire vacation. I would do this again in a heartbeat.

This place is a quiet, fascinating treasure. The Man in the Sea Museum is packed with history about navy diving and underwater exploration. I loved getting to try on the real antique diving gear. It’s incredibly heavy, and I have no idea how they moved in it. The kids enjoyed the scavenger hunt, which kept them engaged for over an hour. The staff is so knowledgeable and friendly. They told us amazing stories about the exhibits. It’s a fantastic place for photos, too, especially with the cool equipment. If you're looking for a break from the sun, this is perfect.

Island Time Sailing is aptly named. The crew is friendly and informative, making sure you learn a bit about the local area. The boat ride itself is incredibly relaxing. We spotted a pod of dolphins, which was a magical moment. They took us to a great spot for snorkeling. The water was crystal clear, and we even found a few shells. It’s a great value for the price, especially if you bring your own snacks and drinks. The whole trip felt personal and unhurried. I felt genuinely at peace. Worth repeating for sure.

Who knew a winery in Panama City Beach would be this adorable? Panama City Beach Winery is a tiny spot with a huge personality. They focus on fruit wines, not grape, which was a fun twist. The wine-tenders are hilarious and so knowledgeable. They explained each wine with such enthusiasm. We tried a few flights and ended up buying a bottle of the key lime. There was great music playing, and the atmosphere was super inviting. I even met a few new friends at the bar. They have the cutest little gift section, too. A perfect afternoon detour.

We needed a last-minute activity on a cloudy day, and Royal Escape Rooms saved us. It was family fun from the moment we walked in. The staff is outstanding, genuinely caring about making sure you know the rules. We did the pirate-themed room, which was creative and challenging. The puzzles were clever without being frustrating. We didn't escape, but we came super close. The staff gave us a great debrief after. It’s perfect for kids and adults alike, everyone can contribute. I loved that it was so affordable. Forget the big fancy mini-golf places. Pirate’s Island Adventure Golf is where it’s at. I love that it’s affordable, so the whole family can play without breaking the bank. The best part? There was no line at all when we went. We walked right up and started putting. I conquered the course (okay, I lost, but it was close). The Yacuma and Swamp Ape themed holes are so much fun. They even have poutine at the snack shack, which was surprisingly delicious. It’s a compact course but packs in a ton of charm.

My kids asked to go here three days in a row. Just Jump Trampoline Park is their new religion. It’s spacious with tons of different trampoline zones, so it never feels too crowded. The staff was incredibly attentive and friendly, always making sure everyone was safe. They have a huge arcade and a snack bar for when you need a break. It’s the ideal escape on a rainy day or when you just need to burn off energy. I even tried a few jumps myself. I’m not as agile as I once was, but it was still a blast. I'll be back, probably tomorrow.
