Crack a cold one, because Panama City Beach runs on two things: sunblock and sweet crab meat. You want the kind of place where the floor has sand and the napkins are thick, not some white-tablecloth joint.

We hit the docks and the dive bars, from a waterfront spot where you can watch the sunset straight onto your buttery clusters to a market stall where the catch is so fresh it practically waves back. (Bring a bib, trust me.

) Here is the shortlist for the best crabs in town, ranked by the mess they make and the taste they deliver.

Fresh seafood platter, demolished
Raw and charbroiled oysters
Casual local spot, family friendly
Great fries and ranch
Worth a return visit

I rolled into Bayou Bill's with no plan and left with a full belly. The fresh seafood platter got demolished before I could think twice. Raw and charbroiled oysters both hit the spot. The place feels local, not polished. Kids were laughing, folks were chatting. Great fries too, and the ranch was worth writing home about. It's a casual spot that does the basics right. I'll be back. No question. For crab, you want a place that doesn't try too hard. This one doesn't. It just works.

Attentive, friendly service
Keep the souvenir bucket
Generous leftovers to go

Harpoon Harry's sits right on the beach, and I timed it for dusk. The crab bucket arrived stuffed full, a proper mountain of shell and claw. Service was attentive without hovering. I kept the souvenir bucket because why not? It's a good bucket. Leftovers went home in a generous box. The ocean view did most of the talking. I just ate and watched the sky change colors. That's a solid evening. If you want crab with a view, this is your spot. Just go before dark.

Delicious shrimp boil
Easy phone ordering
Simple pickup process
Generous portions
High-quality seasoning

Squidly's kept it simple. I called ahead, and the phone ordering was painless. Pickup was even easier. The shrimp boil came out generous, piled high and steaming. The seasoning was the star. It clung to every piece, salty and bold. No fuss, no frills. Just good seafood done right. Portions were serious. I ate until I had to stop, and that's saying something. If you're in a hurry or just want quality without the sit-down dance, this is the move. I'd order again tomorrow.

Worth a repeat visit

Billy's Oyster Bar seated me fast, even on a weekend. That alone earns points. The oysters Rockefeller were fresh and sizable, not those sad little things you see elsewhere. Large portions for fair prices. Service was friendly and attentive. I didn't have to wave anyone down. The whole meal felt easy. I left satisfied and already thinking about a return trip. This place knows what it's doing. For crab-adjacent cravings, you could do a lot worse. I'll be back. Probably soon.

Shrimp City is a market, not a restaurant. That's fine by me. The seafood here is the freshest I found in town. The staff knows their stuff. I asked about crab, and they walked me through options without a hint of impatience. Fair prices too, especially for what you get. It's a convenient spot in PCB, easy to find and easy to park. I grabbed my haul and left happy. For anyone serious about cooking crab at home, start here. You'll taste the difference.

Oysters worth repeat visits
Fried pickles steal show
Happy hour wine deal
Friendly server Kayla
Karaoke adds fun

Shuckums surprised me. The oysters were good enough for repeat visits, sure. But the fried pickles stole the show. Crispy, tangy, perfect. Happy hour had a wine deal I couldn't pass up. Server Kayla was friendly and quick. Later, karaoke started up. It added a chaotic energy I didn't expect. The place has a pub feel, loud and easy. I went for crab and left talking about pickles. That's fine. Sometimes the sidekick outshines the main act. I'll be back for both.

Becky provides phenomenal, excellent service
Oysters are raw and grilled perfectly
Tornados are a must-order dish
Overlook flies for great oyster taste

Hammerhead Fred's is all about Becky. Her service was phenomenal. She knew when to check in and when to leave me alone. The oysters came raw and grilled, both prepared perfectly. I also ordered the tornados. They're a must-order. Trust me. I sat overlooking the flies, which sounds bad, but it's a dock thing. It added to the oyster taste, honestly. Salt air and shellfish go together. This place gets that. If you want crab with character, sit here and let Becky handle the rest. You won't regret it.

Tarpon Dock is a market with a plan. The staff is helpful, no doubt. Fresh seafood everywhere. Their local crab selection was solid, better than I expected. I had questions about which crab to pick. They knew the answers. They also packed my cooler like pros. Ice, layering, the works. That matters when you're driving seafood home. I left with confidence. If you're looking to cook crab right, this is the place to start. Knowledgeable guidance makes all the difference.

Salty Sue's is quick and casual. That's the whole vibe. Service was fast and friendly. I didn't wait long for my food. The meal was tasty, nothing fancy but satisfying. Beach casual, like the sign says. I ate, paid, and left. Simple. For a low-key lunch or a stop after the sand, this works. It's not a destination for crab connoisseurs, but it's a decent stop. I'd go back if I were nearby. Just don't expect a show. It's honest food.

I also tried the grouper with horseradish sauce. It was a good call. Family friendly, but not chaotic. The view makes the meal better. You can bring kids and still enjoy yourself. This place earns its spot on any list. For crab with a waterfront backdrop, it's hard to beat. I left full and peaceful.

Flavorful gumbo with bread
Delicious crab cakes with sauce

Hunt's Oyster Bar has two stories of harbor views. I sat upstairs and watched boats. Service was fast, friendly, and attentive. The oysters arrived fresh and juicy. Then came the gumbo with bread. Flavorful and filling. The crab cakes came with a sauce that tied it together. Delicious. This place gets the details right. The view doesn't hurt either. I took my time eating, just watching the water. If you want crab in a setting that feels alive, this is it. I'll be back.

Worth the wait for daiquiris

Pineapple Willy's is a scene. I showed up for the sunset and outdoor seating. It didn't disappoint. My server was attentive and did card tricks. That's unexpected. The grouper with pineapple salsa was delicious. A good twist on seafood. They have a wide variety of seafood, all tasty. The daiquiris are worth the wait. I waited, and I got one. The whole experience felt like vacation. For crab, they do it right, but the view steals the show. Go for the sunset. Stay for the food. You'll leave happy.
